Real advice from Real Brides - this is Mouths of Brides
SCOUT’S WEDDING DETAILS
1. Wedding Location:
Fort Worth, Texas
2. Beginning Budget:
$6000
3. Actually Spent:
about $5000
4. Looking back, what do you wish you would have known before you walked down the aisle? That I didn’t have to worry so much about what other people thought of my plans for my dream wedding! I spent a lot of time worried because I couldn’t explain just how unique my wedding would be! I got a lot of flack from people who didn’t understand my vision, and that stressed me out. In the end, all that mattered was my vision for how the day should look, and that my rockstar coordinator, Jess, knew what I wanted and would make it happen!
5. What are one or two things you wish you would’ve made room for in your budget? Anything you could’ve lived without? I wish I could have done more florals! I also would have gone so much fancier on the invitations! I think my final product for the wedding event looked very high-end (while sticking to my TINY budget), but my invites look VERY casual! I would have loved to have more details to that! I also would have done MORE desserts! I underestimated just how many treats my guests would eat! I also would have had a TON more lounge seating for guests. Everyone danced so much, that people wanted to rest up so they could get back out on the floor. I would have loved to have more options for them!
6. What was the one factor you splurged on? Was it worth it? Catering! While it was a huge saving to do a food truck (Think only $7-10 per guest!), it was still my biggest cost!
7. How did you find most of your vendors? Most of my vendors were friends. I also worked in the wedding industry for years, so I had a lot of contacts! I booked my mariachi band from GigSalad.
8. When you started planning your wedding, what vendor pricing was the biggest shock? Food! My guest list was huge, and everywhere I looked had very high prices, even on doing something like an all appetizer reception!
9. Now that you are on the other side and happily married, what advice do you have to offer current brides? Please do what you would like! Don’t let others opinions bring you down. You can also do what you want and STILL fit within your budget. My wedding ended up looking incredible, and guests would never know how *little* we spent on the wedding! Enlist a crew of good friends to help you DIY as much as you can! Don’t forget to add in lots of personal details. I took out everything in a “traditional” wedding that I didn’t understand. I didn’t want the pressure of doing something because “That is how it’s always been done.” Don’t be afraid of being original!
