COVID-19 has changed our world. The uncertainty is unsettling. For engaged couples throughout the nation, this virus has added a whole new set of planning obstacles as weddings have had to be postponed and vendors transferred. But, no matter where and when the wedding takes place, the promise you make to one another, your wedding vows, is fundamentally the most sacred moment of the entire day. The coronavirus will give us all a new perspective of life, liberty, and the pursuit of love. We have collected some beautiful and moving statements, promises, and readings to include in your ceremony or vows or, at the very least, inspire you to write your own.
“I stand before you today pledging to stand beside you for the rest of our lives.”
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone gives you courage.” – Lao Tzu
“Loving you is as natural and necessary as life itself. My unconscious soul automatically knows to love you, just as our eyes know to blink, our lungs to breathe, and our heart to beat. You are a part of me now, and I of you.”
“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” – When Harry Met Sally
“Today we unite our families, our lives, our souls.”
“How sweet the yoke that joins two of the faithful in the same hope, the same law, the same service! Both are brethren in the service of the same Lord. They are truly two in one and the same flesh. Together they pray…instructing, encouraging, and supporting each other in turn. They are equal in the church of God, equal at God’s banquet, they share equally troubles, persecutions, and consolations. They hide nothing from each other, they never avoid each other’s company, they never cause each other pain…Christ rejoices to see such a couple and He gives them His peace. Where they are, there He is Himself.” – Tertullian to this Wife.
“You do more than complete me, you complete my life, my body, my very soul.”
“I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.” -J.R.R. Tolkien
“I pledge all my love, honor, and respect to you and to our life together.”
“This moment has been worth all the pain, patience, and waiting I have borne to get to this place, on this day, and to be able to call you wife/husband/partner.”
“ A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin
“I carry your heart with me. (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it. (Anywhere you go, I go my dear; and whatever is done by only me is done by you my darling) I fear no fate (For you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) And its you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you. Here is the deepest secret nobody knows (Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul could hope or mind could hide) And this is the wonder that keeps the stars apart; I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart).” – E.E. Cummings
“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” – Maya Angelou
